I am excited to announce that Climate Friendly is now a B Corporation! It is the latest achievement of the company’s Sustainability Committee, which I have been managing for the last year or so. Most exciting is that we are equal fifth out of all Australian and New Zealand B Corporations and would have been nominated for the “Best In The World 2015 Environment Honorees List”. At risk of repeating myself, I will let Climate Friendly’s press release do the talking…
Climate Friendly ups the ante with B Corporation certification
Climate Friendly, a profit-for purpose-company for over 12 years, is now a certified B Corporation. Innovative Australian businesses like Climate Friendly have joined the B Corp community. By voluntarily meeting higher standards of transparency, accountability, and performance, certified B Corps are distinguishing themselves in a cluttered marketplace by offering a positive vision of a better way to do business.
Climate Friendly’s core offerings are carbon reduction and renewable energy solutions. We work with projects that not only reduce carbon emissions and provide clean sources of energy, but also strive to provide environmental and social benefits to their communities. Project benefits range from improved health and sanitation, additional income generation, support to education, investments in local infrastructure and jobs.
Our overall score of 113 ranks us equal-fifth out of 72 Australian and New Zealand B Corporations. Among our industry peers in “Sustainability Consulting”, Climate Friendly is the clear leader. Our best performance was in the Environment Criteria, our score of 48 was the second-highest in Australia and would have qualified for the “Best In The World 2015 Environment Honourees List”.
Alicia Darvall, Executive Director of B Lab Australia & New Zealand, the non-profit behind B Corp, said it was motivating that Australia was leading the way in sustainable business. “Today’s champions are competing not only to be best in the world, but best for the world. We hope it inspires many more companies to take the first step to becoming certified and manage their impact with as much rigor as their profit.”
“Climate Friendly was created for the sole purpose of helping business create value through smarter carbon reduction and renewable energy choices that provide impactful environmental and social benefits. Becoming B Corp certified shows we walk the talk and are a purpose driven profit business.” said Freddy Sharpe, CEO of Climate Friendly.
Business, the most powerful man-made force on the planet, must create value for society, not just shareholders. B Corporations create higher quality jobs and improve the quality of life in communities. And, as the movement grows, it has become an increasingly powerful agent of change.
Over 1,300 businesses have already joined the global B Corporation community. As a result of our collective success, individuals and communities will enjoy greater economic opportunity, society will address its most challenging environmental problems, and more people will find fulfilment by bringing their whole selves to work.
